People’s Bank, the ‘’Best Loved Bank”, has come forward to be the official sponsor of communication material for “Uthuru Mithuru”, a campaign launched by the Ministry of Transport with the aim of raising funds to rebuild the Yal Devi track, connecting the North to the South, from Colombo to Kankasanthurai. Picture shows Mr. W. Karunajeewa, Chairman of People’s Bank, handing over the sponsorship cheque worth Rs. 5 million to Minister of Transport Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma at the Fort Railway Station – minutes before the Yal Devi made its maiden journey (after a lapse of over 33 years) past Vavuniya up until Thandikulam. This is yet another social initiative of People’s Bank, the state banking giant with over 47 years of service to the nation, who has always been committed to protecting the national heritage and cultural identity of Sri Lanka.
