Launched on 11 March 1993 with a team of just three, Triad evolved on the principal of providing clients with creative solutions to overcome their business issues. Over the years Team Triad has grown boundlessly, increasing its staff strength to almost 100 people in 2011. Transforming its self to become a fully integrated total communications solutions provider the agency began its strategy of backward integration beginning with the launch of its first subsidiary company – a printing press named Printage. This was followed in quick succession by subsidiaries such as Imageline for pre-press work, Emagewise for Annual Reports, Hammer Workshop for outdoor work, Taprobane Studio an in-house photography studio, 35 km for TV production, Hardtalk to handle PR work and Triad Total for BTL work. The agency was focused on developing a complete gamut of communication related services, in order to offer clients an integrated solution. Triad made its first mark on the local advertising industry when it bagged 6 awards, including 3 Golds at the industry acclaimed Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing Awards (known as SLIM Awards) in 2004. Triad's position as the local agency that best understood the local consumer was established beyond any further doubt when Triad swept the boards at SLIM 2005, winning 21 awards, including the Best TV Commercial of the Year. 2006 saw the advent of the "Chillies", the newly launched industry ad awards. Triad catapulted itself to the highest echelons of the industry and lived its ethos of Sri Lanka Can" by emerging No. 1 at 3 consecutive award shows.

Triad's foremost international recognition came in 2008, when it was awarded a Bronze at the Asia Pacific advertising awards – AdFest 2008, for an ambient communication done for the Environmental Authority. In 2009, taking the Sri Lankan ad industry to another level on a global platform, Triad was nominated for a Cannes award with its outstanding packaging design created for Heladiv while also netting 3 USA based Hermes Awards for the same year. The focus on real strategies that solve real problems has seen the agency become one of the most awarded at the Sri Lankan 'Effies' for effectiveness is advertising. Organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing, the Effie Awards 2008 saw Triad sweeping the boards with 11 awards and emerging the unchallenged winner. Triad has also created some of Sri Lanka's best loved TV commercials – its work for 'Api Venuwen Api' has twice won TV commercial of the year at the People's Awards while the agency's "CIC biththaravee" TV commercial won the same accolade in 2010, making Triad's TV commercial the highest voted for by the people of Sri Lanka in the given year. At Sumathi awards in 2007, 'Api Vewnuwen Api' won the TV commercial of the year while in 2010, the TV commercial of the year went to Triad's 'Mobitel Digin Digata Katha'. Hungry for creative excellence and determined to raise the bar of creativity in the Sri Lankan ad industry, Triad has led from the front with a credo to show the world that "Sri Lanka Can". Team Triad stands fully committed to continue with this winning momentum in the years to come.

Triad Advertising started small - the result of a coincidence of events, not a lengthy business plan.

Triad's Joint Managing Directors Dilith Jayaweera and Varuni Amunugama Fernando were contemporaries and colleagues at the Faculty of Law from the University of Colombo. Strong believers of the Sri Lankan "Can Do" spirit and indigenous talent, they decided to set up a 100% Sri Lankan agency in an industry dominated by multinational giants. The objective was to deploy professional know-how to build local brands and infuse a winning spirit to local brands through strategic, insightful, integrated communications.
